Dear Fitchburg Serenity Club Community Member,
If we have a current mailing address for you, you’ll also receive this holiday letter via mail in the next few days.
In many ways, 2021 has felt like the sequel to 2020. Lots of changes, ups and downs and a ton of recovery, resourcefulness and resilience to be grateful for. In addition, we’re still navigating COVID-related challenges (logistical, financial and other) that impact our community.
Thank you to all who attend meetings at FSC and support FSC’s mission to offer a safe, secure, positive environment for recovery. As we continue to recover through COVID, support for FSC’s mission and 12th-step work takes new and varied forms: hosting meetings outdoors and online, wearing masks in compliance with local authorities and out of care and concern for others, serving and communicating in new and creative ways.
The need to maintain our building and grounds and cover ongoing operating expenses remains constant, even as in-person meeting attendance and contributions fluctuate.
Throughout 2021, the FSC Board has continued to avoid discretionary expenditures where possible. In 2021, we finished payments on the $50,000 in HVAC repairs and upgrades that began in 2020, completed the railing for the walkway out front (donated by a member) and made minor repairs and improvements to buildings and grounds, but avoided significant expenses during what’s been an up and down year financially.
Our only revenue is derived from basket collections during meetings, monthly membership dues and individual donations. Prior to the pandemic, basket donations provided more than 80% of the revenue and covered operating expenses and building maintenance. That has not been true this year. A financial snapshot is attached for your reference.
At the start of the pandemic, in an effort to ease burdens for those experiencing hardships as the result of COVID, we suspended our historical practice of canceling FSC memberships for those who have not paid dues for more than two months. Only recently did we decide to resume this practice, which will help us update our database and restore a healthy level of ongoing FSC member support.
Each year, this letter provides an opportunity to update you on FSC happenings and for you to consider how you can support Fitchburg Serenity Club’s mission. If you’d like to make a financial contribution to Fitchburg Serenity Club, please do so directly via our Donate link or go online to fitchburgserenityclub.com. Thank you for your support of the FSC Clubhouse.
